Military Mom Calls GOP the Grinch Who Stole Christmas for Canceling Marine Fireworks

Fox Nation has been busy trying to blame Obama for the troops’ fireworks that were cut thanks to the sequester. They inaccurately headlined their story, “Obama Spends $100M on African Trip But Cancels Marines’ July 4th Fireworks.” Naturally, neither part of their headline is actually accurate nor is it proven nor is it even related to reality.

A more accurate title for the AP story would have been “Military Mom Calls Republicans the Grinch Who Stole Christmas”. The second part of the story (only at the link to MSN) quoted military mom Brandy Rhoad Stowe, whose husband is in the Marine Corps, saying the fireworks at Camp Lejeune always were spectacular, and she said that she and her kids, ages 3 and 9, will miss them this year:

Her husband is a master gunnery sergeant with seven combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001.

Stowe says she understands the budgets cuts but still feels a little shortchanged.

“It’s just a bummer for the kids,” she said. “It’s like the Grinch stealing Christmas.”

Take away: The party that likes to rah-rah the troops during election years is like the Grinch stealing Christmas in action. People may not know who is behind the sequester, but Speaker Boehner has admitted that the President did not want the sequester and the President has been warning the public about the then impending sequester all year. The sequester has been championed by Republicans and is the result of Republicans refusing to agree to any revenue raises, and now the House Republicans’ refusal to begin the budget reconciliation process with the Senate.

Americans should be asking themselves if Republicans are so proud of the sequester, if it really is the Holy Grail of budgets, why are they so ashamed of the results that they lie about them in public? Why is Fox News lying to the Republican base (their audience) about who killed the Marine’s fireworks? Why not just say, hey y’all, these are those cuts you championed! WOO HOO!

If Republicans want to be known as the party of fiscal discipline (a far, far stretch from their current standing as the party of drunken frat boys charging on Daddy’s credit card and refusing to pay off the bills when it comes time to raise the debt ceiling), why aren’t they embracing these cuts publicly?

Luckily for Republicans, their base is easily led down the resentment path and thus easily distracted by shining balls of racial rage aimed at this President. The rest of the nation watches on in ever-growing horror at the Republican party’s clown show, as they take aim at starving children and the elderly and lie about it in order to get elected.
