Media reports stating that Mitt Romney was definitely running for president in 2016 were circulating, but those reports turned out to be completely inaccurate as Romney announced that he won’t be running.

According to Hugh Hewitt, Romney told his supporters, “After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the Party the opportunity to become our next nominee.”
Romney added, “I believe that one of our next generation of Republican leaders, one who may not be as well known as I am today, one who has not yet taken their message across the country, one who is just getting started, may well emerge as being better able to defeat the Democrat nominee. In fact, I expect and hope that to be the case.”
The truth is that Jeb Bush had already hired many of Romney’s top advisers from his 2012 run. Romney’s money people were lining up behind Bush. Mitt Romney did want to run for president again, but the support wasn’t there.
The big story to come out of Romney’s decision is how many media outlets got it wrong. Both The Daily Beast and Bloomberg reported that Romney was definitely running. The Daily Beast took down their original story and replaced with a single paragraph about Romney not running, but the URL to the current story still states that Romney is running ( http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2015/01/30/mitt-romney-is-running-for-president.html ). Bloomberg also quickly changed their story.
It is a total back to the future moment as the Republican establishment appears to have selected Jeb Bush as their candidate, and the media is still rushing to get it first instead of getting right.
