Donald Trump responded to Sen. Ted Cruz jumping in the contest for the 2016 Republican nomination by questioning Cruz’s eligibility to be president.
Video:
When asked by My Fox New York about Cruz’s birth certificate, Trump said, “It’s a hurdle; somebody could certainly look at it very seriously. He was born in Canada. If you know and when we all studied our history lessons, you are supposed to be born in this country, so I just don’t know how the courts will rule on this.”
Being that Cruz is a Republican, Trump didn’t demand that the Texas Republican provide the original copy of his birth certificate, but Trump couldn’t resist going birther. Legal scholars agree that because Cruz’s mother was a natural born U.S. citizen and his father was a U.S. resident, Cruz qualifies as a natural born citizen and is eligible to run for president.
Some on the left who remain angry about the birtherism that Republicans spread about President Obama may want to treat Cruz the same way, but why should anyone on the left lower themselves when Donald Trump will do it for them? The Republican 2016 circus is off and running. The clown car is being loaded up, and Donald Trump just blasted Ted Cruz in the face with some birther seltzer water.
