Donald Trump’s brief bump has vanished as Hillary Clinton has jumped out to an 11 point lead over the presumptive Republican nominee.
Reuters reported on the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll:

Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton has opened up a double-digit lead over Republican rival Donald Trump, regaining ground after the New York billionaire briefly tied her last month, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Friday.

Some 46 percent of likely voters said they supported Clinton, while 35 percent said they supported Trump, and another 19 percent said they would not support either, according to the survey of 1,421 people conducted between May 30 and June 3.

A Reuters poll conducted last month showed Clinton and Trump in a statistical tie, with Clinton leading 41%-40%. In the last three weeks, Clinton has gained 5 points of support, while Trump has lost 5 points.

The Trump bump has proven to be nothing more than a temporary illusion caused by a combination of Trump clinching the nomination, while Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders continued to slug it out on the Democratic side. As Clinton has turned her attention towards the general election and is clearly going to be the Democratic nominee, the polls are reflecting the changing environment.

The national polling at this time of year does not mean much. The race will certainly shift after the candidates name their running mates and officially accept their parties nominations, but it looks like the surge in support for Donald Trump was never real.

Trump still isn’t leading in a single state that President Obama won in 2012, and with the bad publicity piling up around the Republican nominee on a near daily basis, chances are that things will get much worse for Republicans before Election Day.
