It’s Bigger Than Trump: GOP Congressman Says Ladies Need To Be Called Nasty

Maybe if you haven’t lived in the South this would escape your notice. But I have and it didn’t.

Republican Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX) called himself a genteel Southern gentleman while agreeing with Donald Trump calling Hillary Clinton a “nasty woman”, saying sometimes a “lady needs to be told when she’s being nasty.

On the Alan Colmes radio show Thursday, Babin tried to justify his defense of Trump’s crude and rude language with women (never a good plan on the Alan Colmes show because Colmes comes prepared). Listen here via CNN:

REP. BABIN: You know what? She’s saying some nasty things.
COLMES: You think it’s appropriate to call her a nasty woman?
REP. BABIN: Well I’m a genteel Southern gentleman, Alan.
COLMES: So does that mean no?
REP. BABIN: No, I think sometimes a lady needs to be told when she’s being nasty.
COLMES: Oh, really?
REP. BABIN: I do.

Babin is referring to Donald Trump calling his opponent Hillary Clinton “such a nasty woman” during the third and final debate on Wednesday evening.

The problem here, well there are many, but the main problem is a Southern gentleman would not call a lady “a nasty woman” in public in front of the world. A Southern gentleman is raised to treat women with courtesy to their faces.

Southerners would say Babin and Trump were raised in a barn and need to be taken out to the woodshed to learn how to speak to a lady. In fact, a Southern Trump supporter has said just that about Trump’s other comments about Clinton.

But of course, Babin’s real problem is that Donald Trump’s overt misogyny appeals to him enough that he stands by it. He sees women as people who need to be told how to behave like a lady, while he behaves like a thug but calls himself a gentleman. LOL, Sir.

Babin is justifying a man who said Hillary Clinton might be shot if she wins, a man who bragged about sexual assault, a man who demeans and humiliates women over their appearances in public and a man who uses vulgar language in public about women.

No Southern gentleman I ever met condoned behavior like that. Did they do it in private? Maybe. But politeness, civility – even if faked – and public courtesy count for a lot in the South.

Babin can’t claim he’s a gentleman and say a lady needs to be humiliated in public for answering a question on Social Security. A Southern gentleman respects his mama and learned to treat women with respect, even if it’s a paternalistic respect.

Babin, a dentist, says he wants to restore “family unity” but is defending a thrice-married multiple adulterer who brags about sexual assault and uses the p word about women. This makes Babin yet another hypocrite and a person willing to sell out the values of basic public courtesy in order to justify supporting Donald Trump.

Rep. Brian Babin is no gentleman and he does Southern gentleman a disservice with his public nastiness. Babin has no moral authority with which to attack or judge Hillary Clinton, since he’s supporting a man as vulgar and vile as Donald Trump.

This reveals that the Republicans’ problem is bigger than Trump. They have an entire party of misogynistic creeps who are out of date and out of touch.
