WH Official Admits Trump’s ‘S***hole’ Remarks Will Be Applauded By His Racist Base

Donald Trump set another new low in American politics on Thursday by attacking immigrants from “s***hole” places like Haiti, El Salvador and Africa during a meeting with members of Congress.

“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” the president asked.

And just when it appeared things couldn’t get more disgusting, not only did the White House refuse to deny that the president made the vile remarks, but a member of the administration said the comments would play well with Trump’s racist base of supporters.

According to CNN, a White House official said this of Trump’s indefensible remarks:

“The President’s ‘shithole’ remark is being received much differently inside of the White House than it is outside of it. Though this might enrage Washington, staffers predict the comment will resonate with his base, much like his attacks on NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem did not alienate it.”

In other words, it doesn’t matter how despicable Trump’s rhetoric is. If his base applauds with approval, then all is well in Trumpland.

The stunning admission by the administration comes after the White House released a statement failing to deny Trump’s racist spewing that only immigrants from predominantly white countries should be allowed into the United States.

The full White House statement:

“Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people. The President will only accept an immigration deal that adequately addresses the visa lottery system and chain migration – two programs that hurt our economy and allow terrorists into our country. Like other nations that have merit-based immigration, President Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy and assimilate into our great nation. He will always reject temporary, weak and dangerous stopgap measures that threaten the lives of hardworking Americans, and undercut immigrants who seek a better life in the United States through a legal pathway.”

In a presidency filled with dark days, this is perhaps the darkest. But it’s also part of a pattern to which we’ve all become accustomed: Trump says something overtly racist or outrageous, there is short-term bipartisan outrage, and then all things return to normal.

Rinse, repeat.

Once and for all, members of both political parties must draw a line in the sand and say, “Enough is enough. The days of allowing an unfit president to peddle this racist, anti-American nonsense are over.”

As Chris Cillizza wrote a short time ago, “Whether or not you voted for Trump, whether or not you still support him, whether or not you think this ‘shithole’ comment will land well with his base, you need to acknowledge that voicing views like these is simply wrong. It is, quite literally, anti-American. Period. Full Stop.”
