An analysis from a top election forecaster shows that being a “stooge” for Donald Trump is not helping GOP Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) in his re-election campaign.

According to Sabato’s Crystal Ball, the seat is no longer in the “safe” column for Republicans, despite the fact that Nunes carried it by more than 30 percentage points in 2016.
While the forecaster still says it’s likely for Nunes to hold onto his seat in the deep red district he represents, it should trouble Republicans that even the most deeply red parts of the country are trending toward the Democrats.
In fact, the analysis noted that “the number of potentially vulnerable Republican seats is growing” as we get closer to the midterms, not shrinking.
As The Hill noted on Saturday, part of why the election forecaster downgraded Nunes’ chances is because his Democratic opponent – Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Andrew Janz – raised more than $1 million in campaign cash in the first quarter of the year.
If there is one election cycle in which being the president’s shameless lapdog is a bad look, it’s this one.
And Rep. Devin Nunes has been nothing but a puppet for the president, choosing to put loyalty to Trump ahead of loyalty to the country every step of the way.
Nowhere has that been more clear than in the House Intelligence Committees’s Russia investigation, which has been nothing short of a joke.
As Esquire pointed out shortly after Republicans on the committee released their full report on Friday, “Neither Patton nor Greg Louganis ever went into the tank so readily as Devin Nunes did. Tom Sawyer’s friends weren’t as good with whitewash. And, as is now customary, Nunes and his merry band of obfuscators found a whole herd of scapegoats with which to raise dust.”
“This is a farce and any honest person would recognize it as such,” Esquire added.
At the end of the day, Devin Nunes thought he was doing himself and his party a favor by using his committee investigation to cover up what could be serious offenses committed by the president and his campaign.
Instead, he’s facing a fully funded Democratic opponent and a blue wave that now even he has to worry about.
