Following Donald Trump’s escalated attacks on Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the Democratic lawmaker was forced to cancel a pair of events, citing “very serious death threats.”

According to CNN, “The California Democrat canceled two scheduled appearances in Alabama and Texas this weekend after saying she got threatening messages and ‘hostile mail’ at her office, including “one very serious death threat” on Monday from an individual in Texas.”
More of Waters’ statement via CNN:
“As the President has continued to lie and falsely claim that I encouraged people to assault his supporters, while also offering a veiled threat that I should ‘be careful’, even more individuals are leaving (threatening) messages and sending hostile mail to my office. There was one very serious death threat made against me on Monday from an individual in Texas which is why my planned speaking engagements in Texas and Alabama were cancelled (sic) this weekend. This is just one in several very serious threats the United States Capitol Police are investigating in which individuals threatened to shoot, lynch, or cause me serious bodily harm.”
In order to rev up his base over the past week to distract from his humanitarian crisis on the border, Trump has taken aim at Rep. Maxine Waters.
Responding to the congresswoman’s comments that opponents of the White House should protest Trump administration officials in public places, Trump posted a tweet that suggested Waters should fear for her own safety.
“Be careful what you wish for Max!” the president tweeted this week.
Of course, Waters was undeterred by the president’s rhetoric. After Trump and Republicans accused her of inciting violence, she went on live TV and read a list of Trump actually encouraging violent behavior against his political opponents.
Now, after Trump suggestively told the congresswoman to “be careful” in a tweet, it’s no surprise that Maxine Waters can’t even hold events without having her life threatened.
