Trump In Freefall As New Poll Shows Majority Of Americans Trust Mueller Not President

Last updated on September 3rd, 2018 at 06:46 am

A new Suffolk University poll has found 55% of Americans trust Robert Mueller‘s investigation and just 35% trust Trump‘s claims of a witch hunt.

Here are some of the numbers from the Suffolk University/USA Today poll as reported by USA Today:

Fifty-five percent say they have a lot or some trust in Mueller‘s investigation to be fair and accurate. Thirty-five percent say they have a lot or some trust in Trump‘s denials of collusion. The telephone survey has a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points.

The nation is split on whether the House of Representatives should consider impeaching the president, based on what the voters know: 44 percent say yes, 47 percent say no.

….

Most Americans are prepared to be patient: 55 percent say the special counsel should take all the time he needs to finish the investigation, even if it continues into next year; 40 percent say he should wrap it up within weeks, as Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani has argued.

By 63 percent to 27 percent, those polled say Trump should agree to be interviewed by Mueller. That includes nearly a third of Republicans.

Trump’s witch hunt claims are falling on deaf ears

What these numbers show is that Donald Trump has not been successful at delegitimizing the Mueller investigation outside of his base of support. Trump‘s cries of witch hunt have fallen on deaf ears with everyone outside of the Republican Party. Trump considers himself his own best spokesperson, but he has failed to convince the American people about Robert Mueller and the Russia investigation.

The poll also shows why Democrats aren’t running on impeachment. The American people need to see more evidence before they fully support impeachment. Voters aren’t there yet, and it is clear that they have other issues like healthcare higher up on their list of concerns.

Most Americans are willing to wait for Robert Mueller‘s findings, but they don’t trust Trump. They don’t believe Trump, and they are currently siding with the special counsel.
