Republicans Still Don’t Have The Votes And May Pressure Trump To Dump Kavanaugh

It is being reported that if the votes aren’t there to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court by the end of the day, Senate Republicans may begin to pressure Trump to withdraw his nomination.

Video:

Robert Costa of The Washington Post reported on MSNBC‘s Deadline: White House, “If the votes aren’t there for Judge Kavanaugh by the end of day today, you could see a lot of pressure on the White House to withdraw this nomination, because if the votes aren’t there, it really doesn’t matter if the president wants to stand by him. They believe on the Hill the president is saying what he needs to say, but this is going to come down to Sen. Collins, Sen. Murkowski, Sen. Flake, and Sen. Corker.”

Republicans Don’t Have The Votes To Confirm Kavanaugh

A read in between the lines of what Robert Costa reported is that Republicans don’t have the votes yet to definitely confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh may be enough to push a few Republicans to urge Trump to drop Kavanaugh and nominate someone else.

Behind all of the Republican bluster is the reality that Republicans may not have enough yes votes to get Kavanaugh through the Senate. This also suggests that no Democrats will be voting for Brett Kavanaugh. The Kavanaugh nomination doesn’t look doomed yet, but it is spiraling downhill fast, and the American people may know in less than 24 hours if Republicans have the votes, or Brett Kavanaugh is going down.
