A senior House Democrat said that he had a call with Joe Biden and the former vice president said that he is running for the Democratic nomination.
The Hill reported:
“I’m giving it a shot,” Biden said matter-of-factly during a phone call with a House Democratic lawmaker within the past week — a conversation the congressman recounted to The Hill and interpreted as a sure sign that Biden will run in 2020.
In the brief phone call, the former vice president asked if he could bounce some campaign strategy ideas off the lawmaker and invited the lawmaker to sit down with him in person in the near future. Biden also said he hoped to have the lawmaker’s support, something the lawmaker did not commit to.

Biden’s entry into the race will provide some structure to the Democratic field. The former vice president will be the clear frontrunner. He has national appeal with Democrats that no other candidate can match. Joe Biden will run well in every primary and caucus. Unlike Bernie Sanders, Biden is beloved by the rank and file Democrats who dominate the primaries. Vice President Biden has a deep organization, and he will be tough for any of the other candidates to overcome.
A younger fresh-faced potential candidate like Beto O’Rourke could give Biden the most trouble. Joe Biden’s biggest hurdle to overcome with Democratic voters will be questions about his age, but beyond that, there is little stopping the former vice president from being at the top of the Democratic field.
