Trump is so scared of Democrats getting all of the attention that he is planning to hijack the Democratic debate by live-tweeting it.
The Wall Street Journal reported:
President Trump’s political advisers wanted to keep the president off of Twitter during the Democratic debates next week, arguing that there was an advantage in letting potential challengers attack one another without distraction.
Now, there’s a new strategy.
The president, who has spent years embracing social media for his political advantage, is tentatively planning to live-tweet the debates on June 26-27, according to people familiar with the planning.
Trump is attempting to insert himself into the Democratic debate, which means that out of fairness to the candidates on the stage, NBC News must ignore Trump’s tweets and focus on the Democratic candidates. Democratic primary voters will be less informed if any of the questions involve live reactions to Trump’s tweets. The best thing NBC could do is what most news networks are already doing. Don’t provide Trump’s tweets breaking news status.
Trump is incapable of delivering a coherent message, so his live tweets will be nothing more than the president yelling at his television. The American people are sick of Trump constantly tweeting. Interaction with Trump’s Twitter account has plunged. Trump isn’t going to hijack or “defend himself” from Democrats. The president is going to show his hands. Democrats are going to be able to see in real time what gets under Trump’s skin.
Trump is also going elevate the Democratic contenders. On the first night of the debate, Trump will obsess over Elizabeth Warren. On night two, his focus will be all on Joe Biden.
The live tweeting is a terrible idea that will help Democrats and come back to haunt Trump.
