Energy Secretary Rick Perry is claiming that his resignation has nothing to do with impeachment, but he is refusing to comply with a House subpoena on Ukraine.
But Perry responded Friday in a letter to the committees that, in accordance with a previous White House letter rejecting other subpoenas, he would not comply until the House votes to authorize the impeachment inquiry. Department lawyers also argue some of the documents requested are covered by executive privilege.
“Pursuant to these concerns, the Department restates the President’s position: “Given that you inquiry lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation, any pretense of fairness, or even the most elementary due process protections, the Executive Branch cannot be expected to participate in it,” the Energy letter says, citing the White House letter.

Perry can claim that his resignation has nothing to do with impeachment, but after Trump said that the Energy Secretary made him call Ukraine, it is obvious that Perry is fleeing DC.
If Democrats needed to, they could easily shatter Trump’s entire obstruction of congressional subpoenas in court, but since the president already investigators the evidence that they already need to impeach him, there is no need to fight for Perry’s testimony unless it becomes absolutely necessary.
Rick Perry is running back to Texas and hoping that if he lays low, Trump will be impeached without anybody noticing that he’s gone.
