White House Faceplants While Trying To Spin Impeachment Vote As A Win

The White House issued a statement after Speaker Pelosi announced the impeachment vote that only makes things worse for Trump.

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, “We won’t be able to comment fully until we see the actual text, but Speaker Pelosi is finally admitting what the rest of America already knew – that Democrats were conducting an unauthorized impeachment proceeding, refusing to give the President due process, and their secret, shady, closed-door depositions are completely and irreversibly illegitimate.”

The impeachment isn’t secret. Republicans have access to the hearings and the same rights as Democrats who serve on the committees in charge of the investigation.

The White House is ignoring reality. A federal court ruled last week that impeachment was legal and that a formal impeachment resolution vote was not required. The Trump administration has been laboring under the delusion that impeachment will cost House Democrats their seats in districts that supported the president in 2016. What they fail to comprehend is that Trump has already lost popularity in those districts. That is what the 2018 midterm election was all about.

The administration believes that the 2018 midterm election doesn’t count because Trump wasn’t on the ballot, but with impeachment reaching record levels of support, a formal resolution on the impeachment investigation carries very little downside for Democrats with the massive upside of removing Trump’s main excuse for obstructing the impeachment investigation.

The vote is a loss for Trump, and the White House’s attempt at spin has resulted in a faceplant for the scandal riddled administration.
