With the House of Representatives on the verge of making Donald Trump the third president in American history to be impeached, a new poll shows that voters plan to do what the Republican-controlled Senate likely will not: remove Trump from office.
According to a Quinnipiac University survey released on Tuesday, a majority of the American people – 50 percent or more – say they would vote for Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren over Trump in 2020.
The poll finds Biden leading Trump 51 to 42 percent, Sanders ahead 51 to 43 and Warren in front 50 to 43.
While they don’t reach the 50 percent mark, Michael Bloomberg (+6), Pete Buttigieg (+5) and Amy Klobuchar (+4) also lead Trump, according to the survey.

Many in the political world predicted that former Vice President Joe Biden’s initial lead over Trump would dissipate as the campaign cycle wore on, but so far it has not.
In fact, most polls show the former VP with a lead that ranges from the high single digits to the upper teens. One poll released last month by ABC News/The Washington Post has Biden ahead by 17 points.
Overall, according to the RealClearPolitics.com average of all the latest head-to-head polling, Biden leads Trump by 9.8 percentage points – the strongest margin of any other Democratic contender in the running.
And for those who think polling this far out is meaningless, it’s important to note that Hillary Clinton’s margin over Trump at this point in the 2015-2016 election cycle turned out to be eerily similar to the final result
At the beginning of December 2015, Clinton led Trump by around 3 percentage points. She would go on to win the national popular vote by 2.1 points.
There is a long way to go until voters head to the polls next November, but if the same pattern holds in the upcoming election, Biden – if he’s the Democratic nominee – will be in a far better position than Clinton was in the last presidential campaign as his lead is three times larger than hers.
