In another huge development in the ongoing impeachment saga, Democrats are reportedly ready to unveil two articles of impeachment against Donald Trump – one on abuse of power and another on obstruction of justice.

A full House vote is expected as soon as next week.

According to The Washington Post, “Democrats are expected to unveil two articles of impeachment against President Trump on Tuesday that will focus on abuse of power and obstructing Congress and would be voted on by the full House next week, according to three officials familiar with the matter.”

The report notes that the articles will be formally unveiled at a news conference on Tuesday morning.

More from The Washington Post:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) met with Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and other committee chairmen Monday night after a nine-hour hearing in which a Democratic counsel laid out the party’s case against Trump. The three officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private talks, cautioned that the plan had not been finalized.

Leaving a meeting with Pelosi, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.) told reporters that he and the chairmen of other House committees would announce specific articles at a news conference at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Maddow reported the news during her program on Monday night:

Maddow reported:

A senior Democratic aide has confirmed to NBC News that the House will introduce articles of impeachment tomorrow morning. The Washington Post has just in the past few minutes reported that their expectations are that the House of Representatives is going to draft two articles of impeachment against Trump, one on abuse of power and the other on obstruction of Congress. That’s breaking news, from Elliot Engel, the chairman of foreign affairs, one of the committees that has been investigating this thing, saying at the press conference that they have called, that the the chairs of the committees have called for tomorrow morning, we may be getting the articles of impeachment against the president as early as then.

Trump will likely be impeached by Christmas

Despite Republican wrench-throwing and White House obstruction, Democrats have spent the past two months building a strong, focused case for impeachment.

The conclusion of the inquiry is something that just about all Americans acknowledge: The president of the United States shook down a foreign power in exchange for nonexistent dirt on a political opponent.

To fight the damning evidence and testimony, Republicans have thrown tantrums and floated Russian talking points to muddy the waters and defend the president – but those efforts have failed.

Democrats have stuck to their initial timetable and formal articles of impeachment will become a reality Tuesday morning.

Before Christmas, Donald Trump will likely become the third president in United States history to be impeached by the House of Representatives.
