The mysterious hacktivist group may have struck again and this time, Mitt RMoney’s taxes may have been the target. RMoney’s taxes were given to Gawker,
According to Wikipedia:
Gawker Media is an American online media company and blog network, founded and owned by Nick Denton based in New York City. It is considered to be one of the most visible and successful blog-oriented media companies. As of March 2012, it is the parent company for 8 different weblogs: Gawker.com, Deadspin, Lifehacker, Gizmodo, io9, Kotaku, Jalopnik, and Jezebel. All Gawker articles are licensed on a Creative Commons attribution-NonCommercial license.
Not naming their sources, hundreds if not thousands of pages of RMoney’s taxes were given to Gawker. Some of the investment at quick glance seems shady, but that’s what accountants are for. Yet how can a group of hackers actually get RMoney’s taxes? By using an SQL-inject code to find a file in a database. But lets find out who these hackers are.
Anonymous is not an organization per se, nor do they have a leader. Much like the Occupy movement, any action is based upon an electronic democraticvote to perform any action. An action is when an individual or group feel something needs to be addressed. The call-to-action is done either on Facebook or Twitter. A person would use hashtags to call upon hacktivists to gather to have a vote for an action. If approved, the group would either use a DDOS or Distributed Denial of Service attack on a site or use SQL-inject to find a file on a database.
Just before the action, instructions are usually given on various sites on what the action would entail. On the other hand, if approval for the action does not have a majority support, then the issue dies or those who supported the action, create their own Affinity group, which has no tie to Anonymous.
The definition of an Affinity Group according to Occupy Wall Street “Although we work for a common cause in Occupy, we may not all agree or work well together. AG’s offer a solution as groups can autonomously organize around their commonalities and priorities while still supporting, working in solidarity with, and collaborating with other affinity groups and individuals.”
There is an odd affinity. Though many of the Occupy members may not be an LGBTQ, the group is allowed to promote LGBTQ rights and garner support from straight folks as well as protest injustices.
Anonymous does the same.
The file-dump of RMoney’s taxes may have been executed by an Affinity Group, and Gawker may have been the recipient of RMoney’s files. Had Anonymous been responsible, a video of a person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask would have explained what and how they did the action. Neither Anonymous nor their counterpart Lulzsec claimed responsibility…yet.
On the other hand, maybe the file dump was the result of RMoney’s campaign group releasing selected files to the media, to assuage any attempt to demand RMoney’s taxes. Now that his taxes are exposed, the RNC can get back to work.
Or maybe, someone deep inside RMoney’s campaign or the RNC or yes, John McCain, who chose Sarah Palin and not Mitt Romney for Veep released the files. No one knows for sure. Why is that? The mantra Anonymous espouses:
Anonymous has no leaders.
Anonymous is not organized by anyone.
Anonymous can be anything, or it can be nothing at all.
Anonymous isn’t simply a group of internet hackers.
Anonymous has no form.
Anonymous is everyone, yet it can be no-one.
Anonymous does nothing for recognition.
Anonymous is a concept, not a group. Don’t forget that.
It can be Ann RMoney too. But in case it was Anonymous who did the hacking and file dump, one word of advice for those wish to hide, cheat, steal this coming election:
We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.
