Forget the crimes and corruption, Donald Trump said that he couldn’t be impeached because he is doing a great job.

Trump was asked on Fox News if he thinks that he’ll be impeached if Democrats take back power.

This was his answer, “Well, you know, I guess it says something like high crimes and all — I don’t know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job. I will tell you what, if I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash. I think everybody would be very poor because without this thinking, you would see — you would see numbers that you wouldn’t believe in reverse.”

Trump Isn’t Doing A Great Job

Some of the economic numbers look good. The unemployment and jobs numbers look good on the surface. The problem that the growth is being driven by tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy. The growth isn’t coming from rising wages or a growing middle class. In fact, for most Americans, things have gotten worse under Trump. Prices are rising faster than wages. Health insurance is more expensive. Gasoline is more expensive.

The great job that Trump thinks he’s done isn’t being felt by ordinary Americans.

Impeachment isn’t about whether or not a president is doing a good job

Impeachment is not a job performance review. It is a remedy that a reserved for the removal of presidents who commit high crimes and misdemeanors, like engaging in an illegal conspiracy with a hostile foreign power to win a presidential election or engaging in a different conspiracy to defraud the United States by hiding illegal hush money payments to mistresses.

Most Americans understand that Trump inherited this economy from Barack Obama. If Trump is banking on saving his presidency by claiming that he is doing a good job while people are losing their own jobs and health care, he might as well pack his bags and wait to be indicted, because the American people aren’t buying it.
