Half of Republicans Think Trump Is Dishonest As GOP Steams Towards Disaster

Nobody wants to have a beer with a dishonest guy. And that’s bad news for Donald Trump, because his support within the Republican party has whittled down to the point where more than half of the Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents polled think he’s dishonest.

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows trouble ahead for Republican front-runner Donald Trump, as more than half of Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents think “Trump is dishonest, does not understand their problems, lacks the right experience, and does not have the right personality and temperament to be an effective president.”

The Washington Post’s analysis of the poll broke it down:

The Post-ABC poll finds that more than half of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents think Trump is dishonest, does not understand their problems, lacks the right experience, and does not have the right personality and temperament to be an effective president. By contrast, more than 6 in 10 Republicans say Cruz is honest, empathetic, and has the right temperament and experience; similar shares say Rubio has the first three qualities, while half say he has the right experience.

Yet Trump still leads in the primary overall, and therein is the problem for the Republican Party. Trump has 34% support from registered Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has 25%, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has 18%, and Governor John Kasich (R-OH) has 13%.

The Post poll found that 51% of Republicans or Republican-leaning independents would be satisfied with Donald Trump as the nominee, whereas 65% feel that way about Cruz and 62% feel that way about Rubio.

Things also change when Trump is compared to Cruz or Rubio one-on-one, showing that narrowing the field would change things for the Republican front-runner. In hypothetical 1-on-1 versus Donald Trump, Ted Cruz leads 54 to 41 and Marco Rubio leads 51 to 45.

Trump’s rallies have taken a deliberately Fascist tone, with Trump having supporters give a Hitler salute as they pledge an oath to him.

As foreign leaders weigh in on an American election (a very unusual occurrence) due to their concern that Donald Trump is threatening peace and prosperity and Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto saying not only would Mexico not be paying for a wall, but he compared Donald Trump to Hitler, the Republican Party needs to find a way to stop Donald Trump.
