Donald Trump Reaches Rock Bottom as Robert Di Niro Calls Him a Punk

Robert Di Niro says in a new video that Donald Trump is a punk. And that’s just the beginning, before Di Niro says he would like to punch Trump in the face.

“He’s a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a pig, he’s a con, a bullshit artist. A mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, doesn’t do his homework, doesn’t care, thinks he’s gaming society, doesn’t pay his taxes.”

And yes. It’s really that bad. Look at the reactions. This isn’t your average Trump implosion from which he – or the GOP – can recover by hurling insults at everyone else.

Liberal writer Matthew Yglesias’ tweet last night reflected what many of us are thinking as Donald Trump’s latest crisis unfolds:

I know, right? Donald Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women really came out of nowhere.

Fox News’s reaction was…well, pure Fox News. As The Atlantic‘s Matt Ford explained, “Fox News is covering the bejeezus out of Hurricane Matthew right now.” Then they talked about their 20th anniversary, and played “a highlight reel of their old coverage of major events for at least 10 minutes.” As Ford said, “It’s surreal.”

But then, Fox News has been selling the surreal for…well, 20 years. Isn’t that a coincidence?

Just sayin’, you know it’s bad when even Fox can’t figure out how to spin it. Long after the rest of us went to bed, CNN’s tireless Brian Stelter observed,

“1:45am. Sharply worded segment on Fox about the #TrumpTape. ‘Despicable.’ ‘Vile.’ Allusions to ‘other women’ and a ‘pattern of behavior.'”

Hey, remember back in 2013 when Trump said this?

How about this one: Do you remember when Michele Bachmann said God picked Trump to be the GOP nominee? Do you think God knew how enthusiastic Trump was about sexual assault?

Worse, Bachmann, reported The Hill, “also lauded Trump’s advisers, who she says are ‘solid as a rock’ when it comes to upholding orthodox Christian values.”

I was a Lutheran for 22 years. I don’t remember sexual assault being one of our values.

Normally we would say something like, “Boy, I bet she feels foolish now,” but I know better. I won’t even suggest that of Trump. We already got his “Bill Clinton is worse” non-apology.

Speaking of which, the media, including AP and NPR…Stelter’s CNN, did what they could to turn this into a non-disaster for Trump by pretending he apologized. However, as Norman Ornstein reminded the Associated Press:

Now, like Newsweek‘s Kurt Eichmann,

Remember all those vile things she said about Trump before she went to work for him? They were true. Much as Kellyanne Conway lies now, she was telling the truth before. Think about that.

Of course, as Eichenwald quipped,

“Fortunately for Trump, he has Roger Ailes by his side to give him some pointers on how to weather this crisis.”

Which brings us back to Yglesias’ observation. Again, nobody could have possibly seen this coming.

The Atlantic‘s David Frum probably analyzed the results of this latest disaster as well as anyone:

“Donald Trump now about to do to the Republican party what he did to Atlantic City.”

However, Trump got out of Atlantic City with his pants, if you’ll pardon the pun. Right now, as Eichenwald joked,

“Hillary Clinton was seen in the Oval Office tonight measuring for new drapes while laughing about some tape.”

Donald Trump is the punk Di Niro says he is, and he is unlikely to get out of 2016 with the nomination.
