Sen. Richard Blumenthal Explains Why Kavanaugh’s Nomination Should Already Be Dead

While the FBI is set to conclude its investigation into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Republicans are waiting to move forward, some Democratic senators are wondering why his nomination isn’t already dead.

In an interview with MSNBC‘s Chris Matthews, Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal explained that Kavanaugh didn’t just potentially tamper with witnesses, but he clearly lied under oath.

The Democratic senator said Kavanaugh‘s effort to reach out to individuals that could corroborate allegations against him shows that he “knew about Ramirez before the ‘New Yorker‘ article and that contradicted his testimony.”

What Blumenthal said explains perfectly why Kavanaugh‘s nomination should be pulled already:

Under some circumstances, it can be witness tampering, for example, if there is anticipation of testimony under oath by those individuals in connection with some law enforcement proceeding, but put aside whether it’s witness tampering. Those contacts indicate judge Kavanaugh knew about Ramirez before the ‘New Yorker‘ article and that contradicted his testimony.

Despite the damning and disturbing allegations against Brett Kavanaugh and the fact that he told blatant lies under oath during his Senate testimony, Republicans continue to keep pushing forward with his nomination.

As PoliticusUSA reported on Monday, McConnell plans to force a vote to confirm Kavanaugh this week, almost as if they are living in an alternate universe without any of this controversy.

“The time for endless delay and obstruction has come to a close,” the Senate Majority Leader said. “Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination is out of committee. We’re considering it here on the floor. We’ll be voting this week.”

In other words, Republicans are applying to Kavanaugh what Trump said about himself in 2016: “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

In the case of Brett Kavanaugh, he could sexually assault women, lie under oath and throw an embarrassing temper tantrum during his job interview – and Republicans would still stick with him.
