Mitch McConnell Throws A Fit And Shows He’s Terrified Of Impeachment Reaching The Senate

Last updated on September 25th, 2023 at 08:55 pm

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blew a gasket on Tuesday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives will move forward on a formal impeachment inquiry.

McConnell made it pretty clear that he fears such an inquiry into Donald Trump, saying of Democrats, “Instead of working together across party lines on legislation to help American families and strengthen our nation, they will descend even deeper into their obsession with relitigating 2016.”

Pause for laughter.

McConnell continued, “This rush to judgment comes just a few hours after President Trump offered to release the details of his phone conversation with President Zelensky.”

Pause for more laughter.

First of all, it’s a thing of beauty to hear Mitch McConnell – the self-appointed “grim reaper” – whine about Congress not getting any legislation passed. Keep in mind, this is the same guy who has blocked all kinds of meaningful legislation passed by House Democrats, from election security to gun control to anti-corruption measures.

Second, it’s moronic to suggest that we should be praising the president for promising to put out the transcript of a phone call he had with the president of Ukraine.

Remember, this is a White House that has not hesitated in the past to alter official transcripts or use the Justice Department to whitewash the Mueller report. For God’s sake, Trump even used a sharpie to forge a hurricane forecast.

It’s clear that Mitch McConnell was desperately grasping at straws in his weak response to Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment announcement.

Here’s what McConnell is really mad about

Deep down, Mitch McConnell isn’t truly mad that Nancy Pelosi gave the green light to a formal impeachment inquiry.  As I noted already, the president’s behavior gave Democrats no choice but to move in that direction.

What McConnell is really ticked off about is the fact that this will all eventually land at his feet after Democrats in the House make the strongest possible case that this president has violated the oath of office.

The last thing Moscow Mitch and other vulnerable Republicans in Congress want is to have a vote on whether to defend the rule of law or Donald Trump, which is what an impeachment vote in the Senate would effectively be.
