The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart perfectly summed up the lack of logic behind Lou Dobbs’ stated reason for resigning when he said, “So in order to positively contribute to a better understanding of the issues of our day, you must leave your nightly television show devoted to understanding the issues of our day.” Check out the video.

Stewart asked how Dobbs was going to do his job better by leaving his job, “So in order to positively contribute to a better understanding of the issues of our day, you must leave your nightly television show devoted to understanding the issues of our day. I actually agree with you on that one.”

Stewart got into Dobbs’ claim that he is going to continue to be honest and direct, “By the way, you’re off to a spectacular start Mr. Dobbs. Nothing says honest and straight forward than a surprise announcement you’re quitting for reasons you can’t explain for reasons you can’t discuss. The big joke came at the close when Stewart wished Dobbs good luck in Spanish.
The folks over at The Daily Show nailed this one. Dobbs’ resignation was bizarre and Palinesque. What Dobbs couldn’t say on the air is that he is likely joining the Fox family, because without being on television Lou Dobbs is nothing more than fringe right wing voice, so it is a given that he will end up immigrant bashing on another network as soon as he is contractually able.
