Barack Obama was in Oregon this past weekend, campaigning in a state he’s certain to win in November. Obama responded to attacks by John McCain on his intention to meet the leaders of Iran without preconditions. He also emphasized his environmental policies, because Oregonian voters are particularly green-friendly.
While the media is going on and on today about the war of words between McCain and Obama over Iran, they missed the not so subtle subtext that McCain is making the same failed experience argument that doomed Hillary Clinton. McCain seems ready dredge up the tired argument that Obama is too reckless and inexperienced to be president.
Late this afternoon Barack Obama picked up his 303.5 and 304.5 superdelegates as Cindy Spanyers and Blake Johnson endorsed Barack Obama. Spanyers and Johnson stressed Obama’s commitment to Alaska issues, “Senator Obama is committed to Alaskans and establishing important ties to the state.
The dean of the Senate, Robert Byrd of West Virginia has endorsed Barack Obama today. Byrd focused on ending the Iraq war, “As people all across this great nation know, I have been one of the most outspoken opponents of the Bush administration’s misguided war in Iraq and its saber rattling around the globe.”
A new Suffolk University poll of Kentucky Democrats reveals that Hillary Clinton holds a 26 point lead over Barack Obama. Clinton leads Obama 51%-25% with 6% for John Edwards, 5% uncommitted, and 11% undecided. While Obama has a 73% approval rating in Oregon, his rating is only 43% in Kentucky.
What had looked it would be a laugher, has turned into a tight primary for Barack Obama in Oregon. Obama now leads Clinton 45%-41% with 8% undecided and 6% refusing to answer. Obama had in recent weeks maintained a steady double digit lead.
