Former Federal Prosecutor Believes Mueller Has Trump’s Tax Returns

Former federal prosecutor Mimi Rocah expressed no doubt that Special Counsel Robert Mueller already has Donald Trump’s tax returns.

Video:

MSNBC’s Katy Tur asked Rocah, “Do you think Robert Mueller has his tax returns?”

Rocah answered, “Yes, I do. It’s one of the first things prosecutors look at. It takes a while to get them.”

The discussion in the segment was based on a Jonathan Chait article about how corruption, not Russia is Trump’s biggest liability. However, the point can be made that corruption is the driver of the Russia scandal. There is a blurred line between corruption and crimes against American in the Trump/Russia scandal.

From what is publicly known of the people who have already been charged in the investigation, corruption and greed were prime motivators of the behavior of the people in the Trump orbit. Trump’s tax returns matter because they are the roadmap of corruption that is likely to define the Trump/Russia relationship.

If Mueller has Trump’s tax returns, he has the answers to a lot of questions. Trump’s tax returns would allow the Special Counsel to construct a timeline of Trump’s business dealings in Russia. The tax returns fill in quite a few blanks, and if Mueller’s got them, Trump is in a massive amount of legal jeopardy.
