But a short time ago during a campaign rally in Wisconsin, Trump waged a fresh attack on the media and blamed them for the toxic level of politics he has ushered in.

“The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks and stories,” said the pathological liar who has incited violence against the free press. “They’ve got to stop.”

Trump will never rise to the occasion

At certain points throughout Donald Trump’s presidency, whether it was after a deadly mass shooting or a white supremacist attack in Charlottesville, the so-called experts floated the idea that this president would finally attempt to bring the country together.

In each of those moments, Trump failed to do what his predecessor, Barack Obama, did so beautifully after moments of tragedy or violence: unite Americans.

Wednesday’s performance by Trump at a rally in Wisconsin served as just another reminder that he will never rise to the occasion and be the kind of president that Obama was.

And it’s not only that Trump tries and fails – it’s that he doesn’t try at all. He has no interest in bringing the nation together because a man like him cannot survive politically unless the nation is fearful and divided.

Today’s attempted bombings of Democrats and members of the media were disturbing to anybody with a conscience, but this is exactly the type of dangerous and divided country Trump wants.
