The Senate Democratic leadership sent a letter to President Bush today asking him to talk to Saudi Arabia during his Middle Eastern trip about increasing the supply of oil in the current market. Saudi Arabia has an excess capacity of 2 million barrels of oil per day that they aren’t using.
In her victory speech tonight, Hillary Clinton tried to use her victory in West Virginia to make a claim to the superdelegates that she is the Democrat who can be the strongest candidate in the fall.
The polls just closed in West Virginia, and already Hillary Clinton has been declared the winner. This is not shocking or surprising as she was expected to blow out Barack Obama in a state where he didn’t make much of an effort to connect with voters.
The Democratic voters in the state of West Virginia are doing a fine job of making their primary completely irrelevant. The Mountaineer State has decided that they will support Hillary Clinton, but is their strong vote for Clinton a vote against Obama?
The Dark Sith of Clinton campaign, James Carville finally admitted that the Democratic primary is over, well almost over. Carville told an audience at Furman University that Clinton should stay in until the last dog dies, but “I still hear some dogs barking. I’m for Senator Clinton, but I think the great likelihood is that Obama will be the nominee.”
Senate Democrats and Republicans alike called on President Bush to stop buying 70,000 barrels of oil a day at $120 a barrel to fill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The Senate voted 97-1 to stop buying oil for the reserve until the end of the year.
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin endorsed Barack Obama this morning. In his statement, he made it clear that his top priority is rebuilding his city, “In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Senator Obama worked to help address the needs of our Gulf Coast communities. As the Gulf Coast continues to rebuild, other cities have faced tragic disasters across this country.”
