Trump is so uninvolved unless he is trying to shut down the Russia investigation, that people close to him are wondering if he sees the statements from the White House put out under his name.

Roger Stone responded to a Trump statement defending McMaster:
Who knows if @realDonaldTrump even saw the statement put out in his name? https://t.co/lunEEsOfJm

Trump’s behavior suggests that he never sees the White House statements and that he may not even have knowledge of them. Trump never refers to White House statements. The President and those closest to him consider his personal Twitter account his official statements. The statements are never written in the same tone and style as Trump’s tweets and speeches. He never refers to the statements.
In fact, the official statements seem to exist on an entirely different planet than Trump.
Trump will dictate a response to his son’s meeting with Russians. He hounded former FBI Director Comey to drop the Russia investigation. Trump is an obsessive micromanager, but there is zero evidence that he has anything to do with, or sees the official White House statements put out in his name.
