When Trump was asked about the Austin bombings in the White House, he appeared to know nothing about the situation while ranting about “sick people,” and showing no grasp of the crisis.

Trump said, “These are sick people and we will get to the bottom of it. We will be very strong. We have all sorts of federal agencies over there right now researching what’s going on in Austin. A great place. Tremendous place. Is absolutely disgraceful. So we have a lot of power over we’re looking. It is not easy to find. But these are sick people and we have to find them as soon as possible. We have to find them really immediately. I will say working with Texas, working with the local governments has been great, but we have to produce, we have to find this very sick person or people.”
Basically, Trump said the same thing that he has said after every mass shooting, attack, or incident. Trump’s go-to move isn’t to reassure people or demonstrate that he is competent or knowledgeable. Trump starts everything with a rant about sick people.
Trump is failing the Austin bombings leadership test
Unlike Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Trump didn’t proclaim that the bombings aren’t related to terrorism. Instead, Trump seemed to know nothing beyond what he has seen on cable news. There is a bomber on the loose that is targeting a major American city, and all the President Of The United States is capable of doing is rambling about sick people.
There is more to the presidency than trying to sound tough. Trump isn’t on reality TV anymore. He can’t play a character called “The President.” The country expects more than the same tired rant about sick people. People in the city of Austin are worried and scared, and Trump has responded by failing another critical leadership test.
