Trump said, “Where is the media outrage over the catch and release policies that allow deadly drugs to pour into our country? Where is the condemnation of the Democrats sanctuary cities that release violent criminals in to our communities? And then protect them. Like the mayor of San Diego when she warned everybody that I.C.E. Is coming and they scattered. A big operation. Very expensive operation. They were all together. They all scattered. What are they going to do about looking at her, by the way? I’ve been asking this question now for four weeks. Where is the outcry over the savage gang ms-13 and its blood thirsty creed — kill, rape, and control. Because the news media has overlooked their stories.”
This event has been a point by point rehash of Trump’s racist 2016 campaign events on immigration. All immigrants are criminals. Immigrants are coming to rape, rob, or kill you. We must close the borders and end all immigration to have a “safe” country.
There was nothing new in anything that Trump said. I am sure that the Republican mayor of San Diego is going to be surprised that Trump wants him arrested. Donald Trump can’t keep his own stories straight.
The midterm strategy is obvious. Trump is going to try to keep this immigration story alive because he thinks that racism can carry Republicans to victory in the midterm election. Donald Trump is one trick pony, and that trick is playing into racial fears.
Trump wants to take back the narrative on immigration, but the combination of his obvious decline in ability and the fact that he has nothing new to say led him to screw up his big push to change the coverage of the immigration issue.
