Trump Calls Hollywood Racist

Trump said, “We’re looking at that right we have a lot of these companies coming in a little while, as you know. We’re going to be very tough with them. They’re treating conservatives very unfairly. Hollywood, I don’t call them the elites. I think the elites are people that go after them in many cases. But Hollywood is really terrible. You talk about racist. Hollywood is racist. What they’re doing with the kind of movies they’re putting out, it’s actually very dangerous for our country. What Hollywood is doing is a tremendous disservice to our we have now in a little while all the heads of the biggest companies coming in and we’re going to talk to talk to them. They treat conservatives, Republicans totally different than they treat others. And they can’t do that.”

Trump is suggesting that the government tell Hollywood what kind of movies they can and can’t make.

Filmmakers have a First Amendment right in the United States, but Trump wants to toss that out and turn the movie industry into conservative government propaganda. The Nazis run the movie industry in Germany. The Soviets ran the movie industry in the USSR. Kim Jong-Un runs the film industry in North Korea, which produces government propaganda films.

One should look deeper than Trump calling Hollywood racist because that is just Trump trying to deflect criticism. It is the un-democratic impulse that guides Trump that is so troubling. Trump wants to use “racism” as an excuse to take away film freedom. Trump wants to censor movies so that they paint a more flattering picture of him and conservatives. The number one goal of Donald Trump is to silence his critics. Trump wants state-run media, so people should sit up and listen when he talks about what the press or Hollywood should not be “allowed” to do.
