Van Jones Shows Glenn Beck the True Christian Way

On his radio show today Glenn Beck responded to Van Jones’ shout out to him while he was receiving an award Friday night from the NAACP. Jones said that he loved Beck, and there was nothing Beck could do about it. Beck responded that he loves Van Jones too. His attacks were nothing personal, and he never wanted to see him fired. When confronted with love, Beck could not defend his hate.

Here is the video of Jones from Think Progress:

On Friday, Jones said, “Last thing I want to say is this: To my fellow countryman, Mr. Glenn Beck. I see you, and I love you, brother. I love you, and you cannot do anything about it. I love you, and you cannot do anything about it. Let’s be one country! Let’s be one country! Let’s get the job done!”

Here is Beck’s reply courtesy of Media Matters:

On his radio show today, Beck said, “Van Jones, you love me. I love you. We’re not on an episode of Barney. I appreciate the fact that you love me and as my eternal brother, I love you as well. Now it’s never been a personal thing, and I don’t know why you are wanting to make it a personal issue, but it’s not a personal thing, never has been. I was somebody who didn’t want you fired.”

Beck made this whole thing personal as turned Jones into the progressive devil personified for months. Beck took to the airwaves to blame Van Jones for every suspected and fabricated shadowy evil in the progressive movement. For Glenn, his smear job on Jones was a just another day at the office. His attacks were a ploy to grab ratings and attention. I am sure that Jones feels differently about how his reputation was trashed by sensationalistic ratings grabber.

It seems as if Glenn Beck never expected Jones to turn the other cheek, so he was left with no choice today but to lie on the air. Beck made his attacks on Van Jones very personal, but he did tell the truth on one small point. I am almost certain that Beck did not really want Jones to be fired or quit. Glenn has spent months building up this black demon in the minds of his audience, but when Jones quit all of that work went right down the drain.

Glenn Beck is only interested in pushing his own agenda, and he doesn’t care who he has to lie about or destroy in order to so. Van Jones demonstrated how anyone attacked by Beck should respond to him. He feeds off of confrontation, real or imagined, and the best thing for those unfortunate souls who find themselves a target of his hate and distortion machine to do is not engage and turn the other cheek. The best way to answer Beck’s hate is with more love.
