As the violence in Iran intensifies and lingers into a week, some Republicans are blasting the neo-cons within their own party who are calling for the US to intervene and take action. Today on MSNBC, Pat Buchanan called John McCain’s comments hot headed, and irresponsible. He said that, “Obama is dead right on.”

Here is the video from Media Matters:

In response to Sen. John McCain’s call for US intervention in Iran, Buchanan said, “My view is that it was very, very irresponsible for John McCain to say some of the things he said so early. It was hot headed in my judgment. It was impulsive. Can you imagine if the crowds in the streets suddenly were told look, the Americans are with us, they’re behind us 100%, let’s try to overthrow the regime then they were cut down by these Revolutionary Guard and their thugs? I think we would bear moral responsibility for have done that, and it would be a disaster.”

He continued, “I think they have done the right thing. They toned down that resolution in the House, and I’m glad they did. Look, if there is a real crackdown…if there is a savage crackdown…if that occurs I think Barack Obama will have to make a different stand, but as of now, he is dead right on.”

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) and several other House Republicans have called for U.S. action in Iran. McCain has completely descended into a right wing neo-con.

Buchanan is more of a traditional isolationist conservative, but hot headed and impulsive were terms used to describe McCain during the 2008 presidential campaign, and it is not a coincidence that Buchanan used these adjectives to describe McCain today.
