Today on his radio show Glenn Beck went on a full blown paranoia bender by claiming that ACORN and Barack Obama are coming to silence him. Beck said, “I fear that there will come a time when I cannot say things that I am currently saying. I fear that it will come to television and to radio, and I will stop saying these things. ”

Beck said, “There’s a couple things that come to mind on this. One, they’re gathering strength and they’re going inside our government. Their chief organizer is the president of the United States. SEIU is part of ACORN. ACORN and SEIU — stop separating them in your head. They are the same group of people. SEIU is the one that is pushing health care through. They’re the ones that met with the drug companies. They’re the ones — these are the people that are strong-arming. When Wal-Mart decides to meet and decide on whether or not they’re for health care, who meets with them? SEIU. These people are thugs.”

Then he claimed that Obama and ACORN will silence him, “Please don’t let this message fall on deaf ears. Please. I fear that there will come a time when I cannot say things that I am currently saying. I fear that it will come to television and to radio, and I will stop saying these things. Understand me clearly. Hear me now. If I ever stop saying these things, you will know why. Because I will have made a choice that I can only say certain things, and I haven’t lost all of the rights. But know that these things are true. And if you hear me stop saying these things, it’s because I can no longer say them to you. But hear them between the sentences. Hear them, please. I will be screaming them to you. ”
Um Glenn, Obama doesn’t run ACORN from the White House and no one is coming to get you, well they may, but the gentlemen in the white coats are your friends. They are going to take you to a nice place where you will be safe from Obama and ACORN. No one will hurt you there. This is one of those times that I hope that this is all part of Beck’s act.
What concerns me isn’t Beck, but any of his listeners who might be inclined to believe this kind of nonsense. As I have written before, if Rush Limbaugh is Republican comfort food, then Glenn Beck is Republican science fiction. He runs the most non-reality based programs on the right wing, which is saying a lot when the competition is Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, and O’Reilly.
