Van Jones’ Resignation is a Win for Glenn Beck’s Red Scare Campaign

Glenn Beck’s daily attacks on Obama adviser Van Jones paid off today as Jones resigned his position as Obama’s green jobs adviser. There was not a great outcry among the general public for Jones’ resignation, but FNC’s Beck decided to retaliate against Jones to combat the advertiser boycott of his show carried out by the group Color of Change, which was co-founded by Jones.

In his resignation statement, Jones blamed Beck’s smear campaign for driving him out, “On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.”

On ABC’s This Week, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs avoided the question of a smear campaign, “Well what Van Jones decided was that the agenda of this president was bigger than any one individual. The president thanks Van Jones for his service in the first eight months helping to coordinate renewable energy jobs and lay the foundation for our future economic problem…The president accepted his resignation, but Van Jones as he said in his statement he was going to get in the way of the President.”

My own opinion is that Beck certainly did carry out a smear campaign against Jones as payback for the advertiser boycott, but Jones’ previous statements made it really easy for Beck to smear him. I think that it was only a matter of time until Jones’ past caught up with him. Even among the left, Jones is a controversial figure, who has both fans and critics.

The Obama administration doesn’t force people to resign. It seems that the culture of the administration expects one to resign if they become mired in controversy. The timing of this resignation is a little odd, as the Jones story is not in the mainstream. It hasn’t posed any problems for Obama. It was something that hadn’t gotten out of right wing circles yet.

Glenn Beck won because he got Jones to resign, and if anything will cause him to amp up his Red Scare 2009 campaign, but people need to understand that the FNC host wasn’t attacking Jones because of communists in the Obama administration. This was all about the Color of Change boycott, and in this respect, Beck is a loser because the boycott is still in place and growing stronger.

  1. is entitled to his opinion. Easley has just proven that he is a koolaid drinking Progressive/communist. Beck is backing his claims with several minutes of video of Jones spewing racist, communist rants from his own mouth. The Bush/Cheney administration woke people up. Obama/Biden and their cronies have WOKE UP A SLEEPING GIANT! The majority (of all party affiliations) in this country are WATCHING and on the march. We have only just begun to rid Washington D.C. of the corruption, lying, communism, and complete incompetence. Easley’s “Red Scare 2009” is a pathetic spin on the truth. FACTS are FACTS, Obama is guilty by his own mouth and he is guilty by association, Jones, Wright, Holdren, Lloyd, Ayres, etc. The continuous government take over of banks (don’t forget if one of the banks was yours, the government owns your assets now, money, mortgages, car loans, etc) you have lost your privacy to an administration that wants to “spread the wealth” with communist/marxist ideas. Now they know who to take assets from “everything”. “Healthcare reform” is blatant in it’s attempt to take healthcare away from the very young, the elderly and baby boomers. But the government will continue to pull bullets out of welfare raised ganbangers and crack addicts giving birth to her third crack baby. I advocate helping people to help themself, NOT catering to lazy life long dependents on taxpayer money. Most of us have children to support as dependents. The fight more America has just begun. MSM and reporters like Easley think they are getting away with selective reporting, refusing to report or spinning the facts. Note to MSM: We will remember and soon calls, letters, and boycotts will flood your advertisers.

  2. You had better listen again to those videos that Bleck (misspelled on purpose) played here is the Van Jones quote “I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical: communists and anarchists. And it was, like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of.’ I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary.” tell me where in this quote does he (Van Jones) come and say he is a communist, where? You cannot say that because it is not true. next sleeping giants hahahahahahaha oh my the self identified Republicans in the US right now is down to 20% and loonies on the far right like Bleck (misspelled on purpose) make up only 5% so much for a giant. Healthcare, read the fucking bill you moron, it will strengthen Medicare and CHIP and gives those uninsured, insurance while making it cheaper for those who have insurance dumbass. Next selective reporting that FUCKS news mainstay report only what makes you look good, and edit that which does not. Also if you plan to post a comment try to make intelligent sounding statements so you can at least look like you have a 3 grade education.

  4. Irony: The man who claims others are kool-aid drinkers simply repeats talking points you can find on any GOP stationary.

  5. The mainstream media has done a good job of putting this under the rug which allows people like Easley to claim that there was, “not a great outcry among the general public”. and Jones is now claiming that, “They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.” but the fact is that Beck uses Jones’ own words to show what a POS he is. Look at the linked video and you’ll see the dirt that Jones puts on himself.

How about his quote in Jan 2008 when he was talking to the Ecological Options Network when he said, “The white polluters and the white environmentalists are essentially steering poison into the people of color communities because they don’t have a racial justice frame.”

A good guy that’s getting smeared, eh????

  6. Obama’s hiring of Van Jones is the equivilant to say Bush (when in office) hiring David Duke.

The past is always found out. You can’t hide from the InTerNets!
