Fox News Stops Pretending To Be A News Network By Standing Behind Bill O’Reilly

fox-like-news-400x300

Fox News isn’t even pretending anymore. Their pretense of journalism has been shattered by Fox News’s decision to stand formally behind war coverage liar Bill O’Reilly.

So far, no less than eight former colleagues of O’Reilly have stated that the top rated host on cable news is not telling the truth about his experiences as a war correspondent, but Fox News released a statement that stood behind their man, “Fox News Chairman and C.E.O. Roger Ailes and all senior management are in full support of Bill O’Reilly.” In other words, Fox isn’t going to punish O’Reilly for the same sort of distortions that got NBC’s Brian Williams suspended without pay for six months.

The one-sentence statement issued by Fox News did something more than stand with O’Reilly. The statement was also a declaration that Fox News isn’t interested in facts, truth or journalism. There are journalists who work at Fox News, but their work at the network is shaped by an overriding ideological agenda.

At Fox News, the agenda of advocating for conservatives and the Republican Party always comes first. FNC has played a major role in polarizing the news audience. Sure, they have a few paid contributors from the left, but these folks are tokens that are there provide a foil for Fox News’s conservative stars.

For decades, Fox News has pulled off the nifty trick of selling truth and balance while preaching the exact opposite with their programming. Other media outlets are terrified of Fox News and Rupert Murdoch’s global media empire, which is why they play along with the ruse the Fox News is a journalistic entity.

Fox News faced none of the concerns that confronted NBC News in the Brian Williams situation. Fox isn’t interested in journalism. They aren’t interested in news. Fox doesn’t have to care about credibility because they have none. Fox has managed to brainwash a small segment of the population by telling them what they want to hear that their network is the source for “real truth” in the media.

The decision to ignore fact and reality is the way business is done at Fox News, but their support of O’Reilly demonstrates that Fox isn’t even trying to fool the non-believers into thinking that they are a news network.

  1. This whole situation with Brian Williams and his admitting a mistake and bowing out humbly and with contrition. And Bill O’Reilys flat out lie and expanding of that lie and Fox News support vs. NBC’s punishment of Brian’s is a perfect example of the difference between the Reich Wing and the Democrats/Liberals. The Reich Wing is insanely jealous of the Humanity, the Honesty the superior ethics and morals and here’s the big one!… INTELLIGENCE of we on the left. They’re just a jealous bunch of spoiled brats who instead of trying to improve themselves would rather bitch and moan and fear and hate those who strive to be the best person they can be.

  2. Recently a report came out that said the right wing extremists in this country are a bigger threat than ISIS. I would agree with that and would blame it on exactly this reporting by Fox, and whipping up anti government sentiments in the US. There are always a bunch of idiots susceptible enough to act out and kill some people, whether it is police men or regular citizens.

  3. Fox is simply siding with the guy making them money, a move that will please their viewers. It has more to do with journalism than Fox has to do with journalism.

  4. “Fox News Chairman and C.E.O. Roger Ailes and all senior management are in full support of Bill O’Reilly.”

The one-sentence statement issued by Fox News did something more than stand with O’Reilly. The statement was also a declaration that Fox News isn’t interested in facts, truth or journalism. “……..the network is shaped by an overriding ideological agenda.”

Assertions are not facts. They are beliefs. They are opinions. Not facts. They don’t prove things. They show what a person believes. Bill O may actually “believe” he was in danger, in a war zone and helped save a crew member, but when he asserts it as facts he has to provide proofs. So far he has provided none. This makes him a blowhard not a journalist.

Assertions are not facts. They are opinions. They prove nothing. They show what a person wants to believe. Bill O may thing he scores points as a journalist by asserting he was in a war zone, but when facts are brought forth that clearly and undeniably contradict him, he tells lies and scores zero. Now he has to provide proofs or be regarded as a liar, as with Brian Williams. So far he has provided none. You decide.

  6. Dig, dig, dig…..I say there is more stories about Billo like this. Shouldn’t be too hard. Videos, statements, reports, declarations, records, his opinion pages in Media, etc. There might be a closet full of skeletons…. :)

  7. Former CBS News Colleague Calls O’Reilly’s Combat Claim “Absurd”

Another one of Bill O’Reilly’s former colleagues at CBS News is casting doubt on his claims that he reported from a “combat situation” in Buenos Aires during the Falklands War.

Charles Krause, a CBS News correspondent from 1980 to 1983 who reported from Buenos Aires during the same period as O’Reilly, is the latest to contradict the Fox News host. In an interview with Media Matters, Krause called O’Reilly’s descriptions of his reporting “absurd.”

He also recalls O’Reilly being there for a short period of time and not having “any significant role in our coverage of the war.”

“I don’t recall him doing any major story that anybody remembers and he was there a very short time, then he was recalled, I don’t know why,” Krause said. “He wasn’t a team player and people thought he was grandstanding, basically.”

  8. oh, there are skeletons in his closet for sure. Why aren’t we showing his anti-family values? why aren’t we showing what a sick and disgusting wanker he is? Look into his sexual harassment suit that he settled very quickly. The creature is despicable.

  9. That’s what I’ve been thinking too, Charlie. But O’Reilly should have stopped his yakking about Williams before he suggested that those who “distort the facts” should be checked out. Apparently he didn’t realize that challenge would include the likes of him too. LMFAO!

  10. O’Reilly was obviously anticipating being exposed. He made a point of telling his audience that he did not want to “pile on” Brian Williams…and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show to publicly defend Williams.

Bill O’Reilly is exponentially DANGEROUS. For the last two weeks, before this story broke, he has been deliberately attempting to talk his low brow viewers into a Christian/Muslim jihad type war. He has appealed to his viewers to ask their personal pastors/priests/ministers to call on President Obama to identify this as a “war” and exterminate all who do not call themselves Christian. It is totally unbelievable that this can be accepted in today’s culture. FOX is a blight on our society and O’Reilly is tyrant. All attempts to bring him down should be supported by all coherent Americans.

  11. Since fox does not give the news only opinions of the actual news, can’t we the people sue them to take out the word “news”? They would just be fox…….

  12. Howard Kurtz latest tweet included a clip from Mother Jones and the MJ video thet are usung as a defense actually directly disputes O”Reillys ACTUAL words or statement.Sure there was protests and tear gas.. where are the people ‘shot in the street as bill Claims?Bills Claims… NEVER happened.

  13. Fox is every bit as much as an upstanding, straight-shooting, journalistic news source as MSNBC.

There’s a REASON more people watch Fox than ANY other news channel — because their views resonate with the majority of Americans. The ratings numbers don’t lie.

    Just sayin…

  14. Uhm… liberals/moderates get their news from a much wider variety of sources, so the comparison is meaningless and downright absurd. Also, if the majority of Americans agreed with the Fox Fear Network, then Obama would not have been elected twice.

“Make the people hysterical and they will be very easy to manipulate.” – Joseph Goebbels or Fox News? You can’t tell the difference.

  15. Next, they’ll say something equally incredulous like water is wet or the sky is blue or Jesus isn’t lily White…

This is pure blasphemy! Of COURSE Faux Snooze is a real news network that is 100% fair and balanced! Their hosts are all far too handsome and pretty for it to be otherwise! Has the author of this scathingly biased hack job not seen the slickly produced content? The super ‘Murica color schemes! The intensely patriotic bloviating? The incessant challenging of Islam?

For shame, Politics USA. FOR SHAME!!!
