Pro-Lifer Admits Regulating Women’s Sexuality, Not Abortion, Drives Planned Parenthood Attacks

Planned Parenhood 3

It is not very often, if ever, that Republicans, or any of their conservative cohort, tell the truth; it just is not a part of their character. However, for some mysterious reason a few of them are abandoning their penchant for mendacity as of late. First it was House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) coming clean about the Benghazi Select Committee illegally using taxpayer money for the RNC’s  2016 presidential campaign against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Then it was the typical lying Mormon Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) being honest and confessing that he could find no wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood despite a very thorough and comprehensive investigation. Now, unbelievably, an anti-choice activist was honest in boasting that the attacks on Planned Parenthood, and women’s reproductive rights in general,  have absolutely nothing to do with abortion and everything to do with controlling when women have sexual relations; something evangelicals and Catholics consider a mortal sin unless it is in servitude to a man or to produce offspring.

When Republicans and their evangelical base were desperate to restrict women’s access to any form of birth control, one of the complaints was that just the idea of a woman, married or not, having “consequence free sex” was an abomination that religious Republicans would not allow or condone. In their minds there has to be a severe, usually an 18 year and nine month, “consequence” for any woman who has sexual relations; even when their “man” demands being serviced” and the woman is ill. Now, a representative of one of the anti-choice cabals planning to harass Planned Parenthood clinics around the nation this weekend has admitted that the crusade against Planned Parenthood is a purely religious assault founded on ending the corrupt sexual ethic of promoting sex not intended for procreation.

The spokeswoman for Citizens for a Pro-Life Society explained why evangelicals, the personhood movement, anti-choice fascists, Catholic bishops, and their Republican facilitators are so intent on destroying Planned Parenthood, and it is not about banning abortion or protecting zygotes and fetuses. Monica Miller is one of this weekend’s ‘harass Planned Parenthood” rally organizers who was honest and angry when she said,

Planned Parenthood from the top to the bottom is a corrupt organization… corrupt in its view of the sanctity of life and corrupt in its view of human sexuality. I say even if Planned Parenthood didn’t perform one single abortion, just the mere fact that its sexual ethic is corrupted means right there, should be the reason right there, that they should not receive any federal money. The kind of sexual ethic that Planned Parenthood promotes is sex for recreation, sex for mere pleasure.”

Or in the words of more than a couple of patriarchal Republican misogynists; social conservatives demand a prohibition on American women, married or single, having “consequence free sex.” Of course the consequence in this case is producing an offspring annually, or being guilty of, according to the Catholic Humanae Vitae, a mortal sin against god. To make their point and set American women on the religious path or righteous subjugation to a man, pro-lifers cite  a woman who should be disgraced, Michelle Duggar of “19 Kids and Counting” fame, as the archetype of a “real Christian woman.”

According to pro-lifers, women can only engage in sexual relations as a man’s property like a good submissive sex slave; even within the confines of marriage. Last week Michelle Duggar doled out some ‘righteous’ advice to women on their biblical role according to god:

So be available, and not just available, but be joyfully available for him. Smile and be willing to say, ‘Yes, sweetie I am here for you, no matter what, even though you may be exhausted and big pregnant and you may not feel like he feels. I’m still here for you and I’m going to meet that need because I know it’s a need for you.”

For Americans that are unfamiliar with the evangelical mindset of a woman’s role in the home and society, instead of taking any time to peruse the Christian bible for instructions for being a good submissive wife, Duggar’s ‘advice’ to women fairly sums up exactly what the pro-life crowd and Catholic dogma require of a “good Christian woman,” and it is precisely what they demand all American women should aspire to.

Over the past four years Republicans have controlled the House, there have been numerous attacks on women’s reproductive rights and their goal is no different than that of Hobby Lobby’s owners, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), personhood movement advocates, and social conservatives driven to destroy Planned Parenthood. It has never been about abortion or even banning contraception; it has always been about controlling women by putting them in the place their patriarchal mindset insists they belong; at home, producing offspring, ‘servicing‘ their man on demand, and emptying his chamber pot.

It is really unreasonable to claim categorically that where a person “falls on Planned Parenthood really reflects where they fall on the fundamental questions of sex.” It is likely there are some Americans that are genuinely sincere in thinking that protecting a single-celled organism or a non-living being fetus is about protecting life. But the religious zealots driving the pro-life movement are solely on a crusade to control women and their sexual activity. Anyone in their right mind understands that providing STD screenings and access to contraception to “make sure that sex is safe and without unintended consequences” accounts for the lion’s share of what Planned Parenthood does and the anti-choice movement knows it as well. The religious right and Catholic bishops are lying when they claim that legal abortion drives their campaign to dominate women, because their real motivation is, at its core, their vision of Christian liberty to regulate every American woman’s sexual activity.

At least now they are being honest and admitting that is, and has always been, their goal. Sadly, that idea of a woman existing as a sex slave for a man, any man, is a concept that is rampant among the male population that wants to “take their country back” to Puritanical America and put women in their biblical place. If any American, man or woman, thinks the pro-life zealots will not do their worst according to their misogynistic religion they are sadly mistaken and will likely be the first to be “regulated” by the pro-life sex police. Americans should prepare for some serious Christian Sharia if these evangelical zealouts acquire any more power because this vile pro-life movement’s assault on Planned Parenthood is a prelude to an anti-sex crusade and inquisition.

  1. …goodness, truth is erupting on various parts o’ the Republican’t Potty Cancer…is a cure possible???

  2. We believe in big government when it comes to your orgasm because unlike the Viagra commercials the time is never right unless you lay down still and become a baby maker and then you are on your own because if there is any help that is big government

  3. The Hyde amendment bars military women from going to their medical unit for an abortion, because the military is Federally funded. It keeps women from being accepted as ‘real’ soldiers because it is seen as an escape from military duties.

A pregnant soldier has to locate a gyn, travel to and from on her own dime, and take leave. A religious CO is a nightmare.

My first Officer evaluation was marked down because I was married and NOT pregnant. He felt I must be using birth control, which was against god’s will. That was 1977. Still waiting for equal treatment.

  4. Since Monica Miller doesn’t like having sex for pleasure, and lives the xian wife thing, I really hope she is as miserable as she advocates making the rest of the female population.

Presumably it’s okay if a man wants sex for pleasure.

The sickness here is really stunning.

  5. *News Flash* Planned Parenthood is not the enemy & sex will always be more popular than the GOPs policies ever will.

The desire to have sex is built into our dna as it keeps our species alive. Inconvenient and/or unwanted pregnancies have always existed & always will.

What on earth has given the GOP & RTL the notion that the keys to the kingdom of happiness are to force people to have more children than they neither want and/or can afford to raise? What gives these people the right to presume to know what’s best for others?

You do no one a favor when you force a woman to have a child she doesn’t want. Not all people view pregnancy, babies & having children as a gifts from God as not all people are cut out to be good parents. The level of desperation you drive a woman to when you force her to endure a pregnancy she doesn’t want to carry is cruel & unnecessary in 2015.

Emotionally neglected children don’t often grow up to become productive members of society.

  6. Republicans are the official “Sex Police”? I wondered why Playboy decided to go straight after so many years of buck nakedness.. It’s been a great month of confessions for Republicans, almost like the LBGT spring. Seems that Republicans may be having a fessup virus spreading through the ranks. John B. trying to escape controversy, Trey Gowdy found out he was being used like Cheney used GW. The honesty is just overwhelming to say the least. What’s next? Find out Donald’s been working for Debbie Wasserman & he was joking all along? My head’s starting to spin.

  7. I felt compelled to read this article again, what’s gotten into Republicans, it’s mirroring mutiny on the high seas with seagull rebellion. Head’s still spinning. I love America, I love America and, thanks Republicans, I was beginning to think you all were crazy.

  8. And how will these men support all the children born. Not every one can have a tv show which makes them rich.. Mechelle Dugger as an example???? REALLY. MAKES ME ILL TO SEE HER AND HER ICKEY FAMILY.. GAG GAG!!!!Don’t see any one of these baggers stepping forward to say We will help support the children….

  9. we wouldn’t be dealing with this horse hocky if we had fought and passed the ERA when we had the chance.

  10. I’m sorry, but at the end of the day she just sounds like a woman who has NEVER had a decent lay.

Women have to go through the agony of 40 years of bleeding every month in order to procreate, not to mention the pain of childbirth, what the HELL is wrong with us getting a little something out of it?

My husband should thank this moron. Henceforth I am going to have LOTS of recreational sex now that I know they don’t want me to.

  11. [Not all people view pregnancy, babies & having children as a gifts from God …]

“Pro-lifers” *don’t* view children as a gifts from God. They see children as punishment, divine retribution, a negative consequence for non-Christian sex.

    That’s just sick thinking.

  12. Unbelievable that this article passes as factual reporting, with all the holes in it. The first one is the statement that Jason Chaffetz would admit to lying about anything. The second is citing Michelle Duggar as a qualified source to quote on marriage and women’s role therein. Really? Michelle Duggar? The third is the straw man falsehood regarding the teaching of the Catholic Church on sexuality. Obviously the author wanted an anti-Catholic ax to grind or was just too lazy to do the research. So here is the truth: The Church teaches that sex has both a procreative and a unitive purpose. A couple does not have to desire to procreate every time they have sex. They may even avoid pregnancy by natural means, but they must remain open to the transmission of life and accept a new life should one be conceived. As to that crap about women being expected to “submit” unconditionally to a man’s advances, that is such a offensive lie as to be unworthy of comment.

  13. Hmm. Did you really mean to make the implications contained in the phrase “the typical lying Mormon” in referring to Jason Chaffetz? I mean, he typically lies, sure, but the implication here is that he lies because he’s a Mormon, and further implies that lying is a common trait, ‘typical’ of Mormons.

  14. Anyone that’s paid attention for the past 40 years knows this.

The right cannot accept the idea that women might have sex for pleasure, rather than just reproduction.

  15. The way the conservatives are acting I halfway expect society to go in the direction of the society in the beginning of the “Native Tongue” novels by Suzette Haden Elgin, where women had been stripped of rights and reverted back to chattel status.

  16. I’ve been saying this for years. It’s really just about the Christian Taliban demonizing women for having sex. And all the women who have been brainwashed by religion to hate sex and be ashamed of their genitals slut-shaming other women who enjoy sex. Forcing a woman to give birth to an unwanted baby should be the necessary punishment for having sex. Because women shouldn’t be having sex at all unless they want to have a baby.

  17. That’s been my position on this whole debate, since 1984, when I had an abortion to save my life, and realized how INVALUABLE the legal right to do it is. The Powers-That-Be, buying up the legislatures around the Country, and pouring billions into the upcoming elections, are unabashedly using the fervor of thte religious right, to end our Constitutionally Protected rights to contraception. They’re desperate to refill the pool of drones, addicts, inmates, and infantry, which contraception has begun in earnest to drain.

The prohibition of contraception, is a very effective tool to promote the birth of poor people. Thay want to keep it.

  18. “…Find out Donald’s been working for Debbie Wasserman & he was joking all along? My head’s starting to spin….”

My son thinks this – he’s convinced the Donald is a plant by the Dems, to get HRC elected.

    It could work…..

  19. Is it not true that the Mormon belief allows lying (IF) it advances their faith? same as in the Domioninst faith. It may be quirky !!But it is what it is.

  20. I’d be happier to see chastity belts for men…
Contrary to popular opinion, sex doesn’t cause pregnancy: SPERM does.
Why not stop the problem at the REAL source?

  21. Ever read “The Handmaid’s Tale”?
I’ll check out the Elgin novels…thanks for the heads-up.

  22. To be really honest, and this is not going to win me any friends, but the ERA might make it possible for the religious whackjobs to win – after all, MEN don’t have the right to end a pregnancy, and they’re sure to argue that women don’t either.

    I prefer this:
“The right of all born people to allow, or to deny, the use of one’s bodily organs and systems for any purpose, to any other born or unborn person, shall not be infringed.”

Codify bodily autonomy for everyone first, and THEN pass the ERA.
