At her weekly news conference, House Democratic Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told Rep. John Conyers that zero tolerance of sexual harassment means zero tolerance for all and that he must resign.
Pelosi said, “The brave women who came forward are owed justice. I pray for Congressman Conyers and his family. However, Congressman Conyers should resign. As dean Congressman Conyers has served our Congress for more than five decades and shaped some of the most consequential legislation of the last half-century, however, zero tolerance means consequences for everyone. No matter how great the legacy, it’s no license to harass and discriminate, In fact, it makes it even more disappointing.:
Leader Pelosi didn’t say maybe Conyers should go, or we’ll have to see more details about the accusations, and she definitely did not pull a Trump and stand by someone who should not be in Congress. Pelosi offered the clearest statement of zero tolerance for sexual harassment of any national leader. It doesn’t matter who you are, or how long you’ve been around, any member of Congress who abuses their power and position to sexually harass needs to go.
When Republicans are drowning in a sea of immorality under Trump, Democrats are displaying the kinds of principles and values that Republicans have been missing for decades.
