Sen. Cardin was asked about an FBI investigation into the Stormy Daniels payoff on CNN, and he said, “Clearly there could be some legal issues here. No one is above the law, including the President of the United States. There’s certainly a lot of questions that I think Americans would like to have the answers to. Some issues about whether or not campaign laws were broken by the payment by the president’s lawyer.”
The Stormy Daniels story is about criminal activity
Anyone who tries to put the Stormy Daniels story into the box marked sex scandal distraction is missing a big point. What Trump and Cohen did with the payoff to Daniels was illegal and a potential violation of campaign finance laws. The Daniels scandal is about a pattern of illegal behavior that stretches back to the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump cheating on his wife is not illegal. Trump and his lawyer violating the law to cover up the affair is a crime. If the FBI investigates the Stormy Daniels payoff, it will open up another Trump scandal that is likely to take down more of the few remaining members of the president’s inner circle. An investigation into the porn star payoff is coming, and if Daniels produces the evidence of the affair and the cover-up, Trump could have a whole new FBI investigation knocking on his door.
