Calls grew to demand that Republicans protect the Trump Russia investigation after the Department of Justice announced that a federal grand jury indicted 12 Russian military intelligence officers on charges of hacking Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.
Absolutely shocking that President Trump wanted to shut this investigation down. Mueller brought this crucial evidence to light — our most dangerous and sophisticated enemy targeted our elections and stole our data. I can’t imagine something Americans need to know more than that.

Every single person who has said Mueller’s investigation should be wrapped up should be asked whether they think the United States would really be better off _without_ finding out whether the allegations contained in today’s indictment are true.

Mueller has indicted 12 Russians in a conspiracy to hack US computers & strategically release them to interfere with the presidential election. Investigation is ongoing. It’s time to quit with the politics & protect the 2018 election. pic.twitter.com/5VksjpjvR1

It was also pointed out that Trump should cancel his upcoming meeting with President Putin.
Mr. President, in light of today’s indictments against Russians for attacking our country, cancel the summit in Helsinki. It is the only noble option.

The country needs to stop being distracted by Donald Trump’s clownish assaults on our norms long enough to focus intently on one thing and one thing only: Protect the Russia investigation because our country is at stake.
Protecting the Russia investigation means protecting the 2018 election for numerous reasons, not the least of which is that Republicans are gaslighting America pretending that this whole Russia attack thing didn’t happen, but if it did, it was to help Clinton. No, it was not to help Clinton and yes, it happened.
It is, in fact, in the opinion of the intelligence community, still happening. Which means the 2018 election is at risk, exactly as Putin wants us to fear and exactly as too many Republicans are okay with allowing so long as it helps their “side.”
There should be no sides; our country is under attack. Western democracy is at stake. It’s way past time to step up.
