As the FBI digs into the details of Brett Kavanaugh‘s past, the document that he hoped would exonerate him – his ridiculous calendar from 1982 – may end up doing more damage.
According to The Washington Post, the document could become a key component of the FBI investigation as the bureau moves quickly to get to the bottom of the allegations against the judge.
One particular entry on his calendar – a small get-together from July 1, 1982 – could be of particular focus to investigators.
The report notes, “What occurred on that summer evening 36 years ago could be one of the key questions facing the FBI as it reopens its background investigation into the Supreme Court nominee.”
More from The Post:
Democrats have seized on Kavanaugh’s notes as possible evidence that supports Christine Blasey Ford’s allegation that she was sexually assaulted by him at a teenage gathering that summer — a charge he vehemently denies.
“This may — may — be powerful corroborating evidence that the assault happened,†Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said Friday. “That it happened that day. And that it happened in that place.â€
…
Kavanaugh’s July 1 entry shows a nexus between their social worlds — and the presence of two of the people Ford said were in attendance at the gathering where she was attacked.
The FBI investigation is moving at lightning speed
The FBI investigation is already moving ahead at lightning speed. While Kavanaugh had hoped his calendar would provide some type of defense for him, it could actually do more damage once the FBI digs into the details of it.
And that’s not the only area on which the bureau appears to be moving quickly.
As I wrote earlier, the bureau wasted no time on Friday in contacting at least one of Kavanaugh‘s other accusers, even attempting to get an interview last night. In other words, the scope of the investigation will go beyond the allegations from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
It’s no wonder the president, his GOP colleagues in Congress and Brett Kavanaugh himself didn’t want this to happen.
