Donald Trump was reluctant to do too much Coronavirus preparation in case it panicked the stock market, according to a new report. The markets have been volatile since the pandemic hit the U.S.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has mobilized the state’s National Guard. He’s made the decision because of a lack of ventilators amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
“We do not have enough ventilators. Period,” Cuomo said on Twitter.
More than 2,000 ventilators in the federal stockpile aren’t working because of a lack of maintenance. The news comes as states scramble for as many of the lifesaving machines as possible.
The New York Times reported on Thursday that 2,109 ventilators in the federal stockpile don’t work and have not been properly maintained. The Trump administration is holding 10,000 ventilators.
Senator Chris Murphy has accused the Trump administration of surrendering to Coronavirus. The Connecticut Democrat claims there is no plan to tackle the outbreak.
“If you’re criticizing Trump’s Coronavirus response as ineffective, you’re doing it wrong,” Murphy wrote.
Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) said that the automakers want to help, but are getting no direct communication and management from Trump on producing medical equipment.
Over the past week, President Donald Trump had claimed he was planning to invoke Defense Production Act powers that would allow his administration to compel private businesses to create products currently on short supply due to the coronavirus crisis.
