Trump decided that subtle racism wasn’t good enough, so he took it up another notch by announcing that he is considering a pardon for Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff who was found guilty of illegally conducting anti-immigrant traffic patrols.

“I am seriously considering a pardon for Sheriff Arpaio,†the president said Sunday, during a conversation with Fox News at his club in Bedminster, N.J. “He has done a lot in the fight against illegal immigration. He’s a great American patriot and I hate to see what has happened to him.â€
This “great American patriot” as Trump called him has one of the vilest records of bigotry and racial profiling one will ever see an elected public official. Arpaio has tormented and physically mistreated Latinos and immigrants for years, which has obviously made him a hero to Donald Trump.
It is almost as if Trump feels like he didn’t make his views clear enough when he blamed the left for the racist violence in Charlottesville, and then a member of his administration said that the left was as violent or more violent than the racists.
Trump looked completely disinterested and disengaged while he read the statement condemning racism at the White House on Monday. A man who wants to pardon Joe Arpaio can’t also be anti-racism. If Trump pardons Arpaio, it will be another nail in his coffin as the President with the worst poll numbers in history will take another step towards being run out of office.
