Things haven’t been going well for Donald Trump. He’s failed to pass a single substantive piece of legislation since taking office, his approval ratings are dismal, and Robert Mueller’s investigation continues to circle around the White House.
He’s so desperate for good coverage, in fact, that now he’s lying about how good of a golfer he is.
According to a report in The Hill, citing records from the U.S. Golf Association, Trump submitted a score of 68 last month – an improbable score for anybody not in the PGA.
The news comes just a few weeks after Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) posted a tweet about Trump’s golf score during a round the two men played together, which New York Magazine characterized as “almost certainly” a lie.

Really enjoyed a round of golf with President @realDonaldTrump today.
President Trump shot a 73 in windy and wet conditions!
— Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) October 9, 2017
At the time, Golf Magazine called the claim by Graham “patently unbelievable.”
“The senator’s claimed score for Trump is patently unbelievable to many golfers,” the magazine noted. “But a 73, from a 71-year-old who plays often for a president but infrequently for a low-handicap golfer? Unlikely, to say the least.”
Here’s Trump missing what appeared to be a short putt last weekend, when he spent a fourth consecutive weekend at his Virginia golf club.

It’s certainly true that Trump is a probably an above average golfer. For a man who has already spent 76 days of his presidency – over 27 percent of his term – on a golf course, he should be.
As his presidency continues to crumble under the weight of explosive scandals and utter incompetence, it’s no surprise that this president would float lies about his golf score. It’s all he has left.
