One further thing to consider, Jase. Check the state maps for some of the red states Obama won and you’ll see a sea of red with isolated spots of blue. In Indiana, for example, McCain won most of the counties, but Obama won Marion (Indianapolis), St Joseph (South Bend) and Lake (Gary) Counties, meaning he got three of the four biggest cities in Indiana (he missed Fort Wayne). In Missouri, where he almost scored an upset, he got St Louis, Columbia and Kansas City, but lost almost everything else. Same thing in Florida, where he scored Orlando, Tampa and Miami, but lost the majority of the counties.

In other words, the higher the population density, the more likely you were to vote Obama.

Now, admittedly there also larger minority populations in these centers, but could it be that all of Palin’s “Real America” comments may have backfired a little?
