There have been some small signs that not all Republicans are on board with the idea that Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican Party. First Mitt Romney took a jab at her last weekend, and now Bill Bennett said today on CNN that Palin isn’t the future of the GOP. Bennett came close to labeling Palin a media creation.

On CNN’s State of the Union Bennett said that the media should take the focus off of Palin and Limbaugh, . But one thing the media could do, some of the media, is to move the debate off Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh. This is probably not the future of the Republican Party.”

Host John King asked Bennett if Palin is the future of the Republican Party. He answered, “I do not. You could talk about a Paul Ryan or a Mike Pence. We could talk about Bobby Jindal. It could talk even about a Jon Kyl or a David Petraeus. There’s a lot of talent in this party. But I understand why a lot of the media wants to focus on Palin and Rush, because they can get the numbers against the Republican Party. But we shall wait. Our time will come again.”

Did Bennett just suggest that Palin is too polarizing to lead the GOP? I think he came out and said that Palin turns people against the Republican Party. He is right. Palin is a gift from heaven for Democrats. She is a less intelligent version of George W. Bush. She offers nothing new, and is strictly trying to get by on personality.

However the GOP field could be even weaker in 2012 than it was in 2008, so it is entirely possible that Palin will be the Republican nominee against Obama. What the history of political parties does tell us is that the people who lead a party back to prominence usually aren’t the well known faces. The Democratic Party was led back by a guy who had only been a Senator for two years. It is entirely possible that the future of the GOP is someone who is still an unknown today, and I seriously doubt that person is Sarah Palin.
