Fox News Labels Park 51 Project A Center for Terrorism

If you can believe it, Fox News has moved on to even more inflammatory rhetoric on the Park 51 project. Tonight on The O’Reilly Factor, Dick Morris called the community center would be a, “center for terrorism” if it was built.

Morris said, “The point I want to make is that The Center for Security Policy run by Frank Gaffney did a study of 100 mosques in the United States 20 of them were religious institutions where Sharia law was not present. They talked about worshipping God and loving God, and those are great, I wouldn’t mind if you had one right on Ground Zero itself. The other 80 were Sharia institutions, which essentially is what this mosque is going to be. Essentially a law school to study Sharia law, and to spawn adherence and devotees. The reason the Muslim community, the radical Muslim community is so anxious for this thing to be built is because they want to counter the assimilationist tendencies of Muslims in the United States, and make them the same, a center for terrorism.”

Let us now connect the illogical dots of hate. Morris bases his entire argument on the falsehood that Park 51 is a mosque. As Keith Olbermann pointed out, it isn’t. It is a community center with prayer space. Morris’ next step is to label this “mosque” as radical based on a study put together by arch neo-con and anti-Islamist Frank Gaffney, who you may remember as the nut job who went on television to tell the world that he believes that Obama is speaking in secret code telling Muslims that he will submit to them.

There is no law school, Sharia or otherwise, associated with the Park 51 project, and claiming that it is a potential center for terrorism, is like calling your local YMCA a hot bed of terrorist activity. Morris’ claims are nothing but falsehoods built on the big lie that Park 51 is a mosque. The whole point here is to tap into the post-9/11 fears of Republicans in order to get them to the polls this November to support the GOP.

The “Ground Zero Mosque” is nothing more than the latest battlefield in the race/religion war that Fox News is working hard to inspire. After they got nailed on Shirley Sherrod, the network decided to lay off black people, and turn their attention to Hispanics and Muslims. If the Right wing is successful with their hate campaign, not only will the politics of hate and fear win, but it will also be a stunning defeat for our constitutional freedoms, and a community will be deprived of a much needed resource. In short, when Fox News and their hate speech wins, everyone else loses.

  1. I was so proud of this country when Obama was elected. Now, I’m ashamed.

I hope we can come together again and take a stand against hate!

  2. I have to agree with English…
I can’t believe how this country has regressed. I thought we were so over Race, Religion, etc. but not.

  3. Aye, we are back in the 60’s again. If luck holds we should have a generation of hippies again by the 70’s.

  4. I wonder what his justification is? He is just saying that. He doesn’t need justification, I forget.

This is pathetic. Fox News is in the target as a fake news station and yet they ratchet up the BS with lies.

How do you fight back? Whats said is said and the loyal morons will buy it. Just like Rush calling Obama a muslim.

Im seldom “too” paranoid. But sometime the pressure cooker is gonna blow. Lots of cons talk about armed revolution, I think one is about to happen. I seriously think that Fox and the morons like Rush are pushing for it. If this mosque goes through I think there will be riots at least. And Fox will do their best to bring it about. Which is a pity.

  5. Excellent post with great links and summary.

The ironic aspect of all this fear-mongering about Muslim “Centers for Terrorists” is that the USA has seen an explosion of “centers” for domestic terrorists (white supremacy and militia groups) even greater than in the 1990’s during the previous Democratic presidency. In 1995, the worst act of domestic terrorism in our country’s history was perpetrated by Tim McVeigh on the Murrah Federal Building (168 workers, visitors, and children in an on-site daycare died) in Oklahoma City.

I should know. I was one of the physicians in a hospital four blocks away — waiting for casualties.

While the right-wing and its media arms (FOX and talk radio) are trying to scare Americans about possible Muslim terrorist schemes and plots, domestic terrorists are already plotting in our own back yards —- and, just like Tim McVeigh, these domestic terrorists don’t give a sh*t about “collateral damage” (innocent civilians) in their desired rampage against our government and her people.

FOX and the right-wing operatives seem oblivious of the fact that this calculated fear-mongering of “the other” directly feeds the growth of these domestic organizations. Hate is easy to provoke, but hard to control — and FOX et al will hide behind the diffusion of responsibility as collective entities always do when negative consequences result.

  6. Wait a minute – isn’t murdoch’s business partner a Saudi who not only contributes money to terrorists, but also has ties to Park 51? Did anyone else hear about this? Am I delusional?

  7. FTA: ““The point I want to make is that The Center for Security Policy run by Frank Gaffney did a study of 100 mosques in the United States 20 of them were religious institutions where Sharia law was not present. ”

So it’s okay to talk about Mosaic Law and enforcing Mosaic Law but it’s wrong to talk about Sharia Law…when there is absolutely no difference between them. In other words, Christians have more rights than Muslims.

This is a great article, Jason.

  8. Yes this is a well known fact. The second largest shareholder in Fox also is contributing to the Community Center. As to his contributions to terrorists I think I heard that was debunked but I havent looked any deeper
