During an appearance on Fox News’ Justice with Judge Jeanine over the weekend, Steve Emerson, the Executive Director of The Investigative Project on Terrorism Foundation, made the claim that the entire city of Birmingham, England, was Muslim and that non-Muslims simply do not go into the city. Immediately after making the unbelievably false statement, the hashtag #FoxNewsFacts began trending on Twitter, as people relentlessly mocked the network and Emerson over the outlandish comment and used the hashtag to state other things commentators and pundits on Fox would likely say.

During his discussion with host Jeanine Pirro, who is one of the more outspoken and extreme personalities on Fox (which is saying something), Emerson told the Muslim-hating Pirro that there are entire sections of Europe that are overtaken by radical Islamists and governments have told their citizens that certain places are “no-go zones.” He also pointed out that Muslims in these areas have created their own police forces to enforce Sharia Law, specifically to ensure people dress is traditional Muslim garb.

“In Britain, it’s not just no-go zones, there are actual cities like Birmingham that are totally Muslim where non-Muslims just simply don’t go in. And parts of London, there are actually Muslim religious police that actually beat and actually wound seriously anyone who doesn’t dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire. So there’s a situation that Western Europe is not dealing with.”

Even Pirro, who makes her living tossing out fear-mongering comments, didn’t seem to totally buy what Emerson was selling, though she was still running with the idea that “caliphates” were being set up in Western Europe. Below is video of the segment:

Of course, Emerson was dead wrong about Birmingham being totally Muslim. Per the most recent census count, the city’s Muslim population is less than 22%. Also, he really cannot back up his assertion that entire police forces are intimidating non-Muslims and enforcing Sharia Law. Therefore, it didn’t take long for Emerson’s completely false claim to gain the attention of those worldwide and the mocking to start. After thousands of people had sent their own #FoxNewsFacts, Emerson released a statement to the Huffington Post apologizing for his comments.

“I have clearly made a terrible error for which I am deeply sorry. My comments about Birmingham were totally in error. And I am issuing an apology and correction on my website immediately for having made this comment about the beautiful city of Birmingham. I do not intend to justify or mitigate my mistake by stating that I had relied on other sources because I should have been much more careful. There was no excuse for making this mistake and I owe an apology to every resident of Birmingham. I am not going to make any excuses. I made an inexcusable error. And I am obligated to openly acknowledge that mistake.

“Steve

“PS. I intend to make a donation to Birmingham Children’s Hospital”

The hashtag was still trending as of Monday morning. Below are some of the more entertaining tweets mocking Fox News.

  1. Unfortunately, all the satiric tweets in the world will not change the minds of millions of Foxtards that now believe there is a Muslims only city in England.
Notice he apologized on Huffington Post, not Fox.

  2. Don’t you just love how a person that resides in another country can make statements about a city located in a country he probably as never visite?
It’s right up there with white people making statements about non-white people regarding how they think, behave, their culture, while never ever knowing people who belong to that race.

He is not an “expert.” How can he be an expert regarding a city he has never laid eyes on? FN has yet to hire or seek out “experts” on anything.

  3. How FOX manages to get non-experts to give opinions on a subject they have no legitimate knowledge about..but will justify FOX’s current bullshit lie of the day–is incredible to me. They must have to pay these fools serious $$bucks for them to lie as they do and make fools of themselves on FOX. Worst than that? Is having AA, Latinos, Asians on FOX denying the daily racism -lying against their own race -showing hate against their own race -misinforming their own race so they can end up at the bottom of the barrel while they make $$$ lying for FOX and the GOP. Bunch of moronic folks on the right. I’m sorry but there is no helping those kinds of minds. They’re locked. Brainwashed. A labotomy wouldn’t help at this point. GOP own their base’s empty brains.

  4. Hey, not so fast there! You’re assuming that “millions” actually watch Faux. Not so — more like maybe 1/2 million, if they’re lucky, thanks be to Dish!

  5. Would you expect anything les (more?) out of Faux News? “If it’s not true, you’ve heard it first here on Fox”, is their secret motto. “Fair and Balanced” is to draw in their audience.

  6. This whole weekend on FOX there was non-stop bashing of Muslims (Islamists) and Obama. Judge Jeanine, and Steve Emerson, the Executive Director of The Investigative Project on Terrorism Foundation were not the only ones…FOX AND FRIENDS (Their foaming at the mouth guests, i.e. Col Peterson (went batshit crazy at Obama over not calling the terrorists “Islamic” then went on to claim Obama is anti-American, plus other vile chit, then of course there was O’Reilly and Hannity and the soon to be announced candidate Huckabee. It was a disgusting display….I had to hold my nose while watching, but I wanted to see and hear them. Every other network and cable were just reporting NOT commentating like FOX’s line up of the usual suspects. They could not help but inject islamo-phobia and Obama-phobia into their comments!!!

  7. Maple – I was a grumbler about Dish, about programs etc, but since they have not had FOX, even though I never watched it I have written them to tell them how happy I am that FOX has gone.
Also, I was born in England, and any brit knows how wrong FOX was, but that is the nature of FOX, the British, in their own way are really tearing a strip off FOX, with humor.

  8. Steve Emerson is an idiot who has never been right about the subject people claim he is an expert about.

Case in point during the OKC bombing he was on the air claiming that Muslims did it.

In 1996, he alleged that Muslim academics based in the University of South Florida, in Tampa, were implicated in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Centre. “I am constrained at this point form revealing some of those details,” he wrote. No one from Tampa has ever been charged with involvement in that outrage.

In April 2013, he claimed to have inside knowledge that the person who planted a bomb during the Boston marathon was a Saudi, who was being deported rather than prosecuted because “that’s the way things are done with Saudi Arabia: you don’t arrest their citizens, you deport them.” Actually, the bombers were two Chechens.

  9. Fox watchers are suffering from Stockholm syndrome;they are being held hostage of their own ignorance and hatred stoked by the propagandizing FOX news. Science Fiction movies and books become reality.
