When your father is a U.S. president with historically low approval ratings, it turns out that making surprise visits to schools won’t be welcomed as a nice gesture by a lot of people. Ivanka Trump presumably realized just that after parents of students at Norwalk High School in Connecticut pulled their kids from class after hearing the first daughter dropped by for a visit on Monday.
“This should have been brought to our attention, although I do understand security reasons — you know we might not have been able to be told ahead of time,” one mother told New Jersey News 12. “I think we should have had the choice to send our child to school or keep them home.”

Ivanka, as well as IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, was at the school to visit participants of the Norwalk Early College Academy, a program which gives students the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree in mobile programming or software engineering in addition to their high school diplomas.
The first daughter tweeted about her visit but didn’t acknowledge the backlash from some parents.
