Trump Loses For The Third Time On Census Citizenship Question

A third federal court has ruled that Trump can’t add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.

CBS News reported:
U.S. District Court Judge George Hazel in Maryland on Friday determined the Trump administration’s addition of the question, “Is this person a citizen of the United States?” is a violation of federal administrative law, favoring the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

“Based on the foregoing, the court will enter judgment for the plaintiffs, enjoining defendants from including the citizenship question on the 2020 Census,” the judge’s opinion reads.

Federal judges in New York and California had already come to similar conclusions. The Supreme Court is expected to about the constitutionality of the question on April 23.

While Trump is parading around the border and trying to whip up a fake crisis in an effort to justify is “national emergency” declaration, he continues to lose in court on the issue of adding a citizenship question to the census, and he was sued by Congress to block his efforts to pay for his wall by using already appropriated funds.

Republicans thought that they were getting a winner when they voted for Trump, but this president has consistently lost in court.

The Trump administration has been totally incompetent at hiding the real reason why they want the citizenship question. There are mountains of documented evidence that shows that Trump wants the question to depress the representation of racial minorities. There is no legal or policy reason for the question. Trump’s goal is to try to stem the changing demographics that hurt Republicans by depressing minority response to the census.

Federal judges aren’t buying it. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in a few weeks, but Trump’s citizenship question looks doomed for a president who promised, “so much winning” but has delivered none.”
